Our Gallery is run entirely by volunteer members, who generally do two 3 hour shifts or 1 six our shift every four weeks in the Shop.
Others volunteer in the garden, or on the Committee and some do all of the above!
Volunteers enjoy getting together with friends, meeting new people and they also receive a reduction in the commission paid on sales of their items in the shop.
Volunteering involves meeting customers who visit the Gallery, doing a small amount of dusting/vacuuming to keep the Gallery clean, and operating the Apple ‘Square’ point of sales system.
We have a kitchen where volunteers can heat up their lunch or make a “cuppa”.
Exhibitions
A special exhibition space at Gallery on Track is made available to individual members each onth to feature a collection of their work.
Artists wishing to apply for an ‘Artist of the Month Exhibition’ should liaise with the Curator, Carol Divall (0429 923 604 caroldivall@hotmail.com) to book an exhibition month.
Each exhibition normally runs from the first Saturday of the month to the last Sunday of that month. The official Opening of the Exhibition is usually during the first weekend of the month and may be Saturday or Sunday at 2 pm or a Friday or Saturday early evening – to be fixed in consultation with the Curator.
Create Quilts
Volunteers contribute their time and expertise at Tuesday workshops to creatively sew patchwork quilts. Materials for these patchwork quilts has been donated by members of the public to the Gallery on Track. Sales from a small number of craft items made by the volunteers, provide funds to purchase additional supplies such as batting for inside the quilts. The Gallery on Track donates these quilts to local charities.
Contribute to Gallery Functions
The Gallery on Track is a thriving not for profit business that is totally dependent on the volunteer members of the Gallery. Members contribute to monthly exhibitions, artist and craft workshops, creative displays of their work for sale in the Gallery, curating the Gallery, media and data entry requirements and roster allocations for Gallery Shop sales.
Exhibit Arts and Crafts
The Gallery on Track regularly exhibits the work of local artists and artisans. Bodies of work are featured monthly by the Gallery providing an opportunity for the public to view and purchase the creative talents from local artists and artisans on display. Volunteers contribute to the many facets of these exhibitions.
Respect the Adaptive Reuse of the Historical Railway Building
Volunteers provide visitors / tourists who visit Gallery on Track with information about the adaptive reuse of the historical railway building via the poster in the Gallery Shop and showcasing the building today compared to the use of the building in the past. Volunteer members also contribute to the maintenance of the building, the site and to the refurbished gardens. Through efforts by volunteers, Gallery on Track has received several awards for the adaptive reuse of the historical railway building. These awards recognise the volunteers’ commitments to the historical past, preservation of history for Rail Heritage, Goulburn and surrounds and the continuance of historical buildings for generations to come. |
